Open is one of the last true "roots reggae" clubs in Tokyo. Those who have been around a while may remember the infamous "Club 69" in 2-chome. Open is managed by the same people and has much of the same vibe.

Open is fairly spacious for a basement reggae pub. They play almost exclusively roots reggae, though some DJs will slip in a dance hall tune now and then. I have even heard them play the Chemical Brothers there once or twice, but if you check out open you should be in the mood for Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear. The DJs are also pretty good about playing any tunes you request.

Open is a nice place to hang out and dance. They have drums and other noise making instruments for you to play with. I can't, however, recommend it as a place to find new romantic encounters, but who knows? Anyway, it's a cool place to have a drink, and the cover is only 1000 yen with the first one.

They open at about 11, but nothing really happens there until late night. Open is located right in front of the Shinjuku Gate of Shinjuku Gyoen Park, which makes it a nice place to go outside for some air. Here's a map, but the place is pretty easy to find.
